Kgosi Jeff Montshioa
The Traditional Council oversees policy development and the implementation of resolutions. It is chaired by Kgosi and consists of 30 members.
Kgosi elects 60% of the members and the remaining 40% are democratically elected by the general public for a five-year term of office. Nine members of council are hereditary members they
represent the descendants of Montshioa’s nine brothers.
The executive chairperson of the Council, Kgosi Jeff Montshioa, studied in Botswana and in Kenya. He holds an Advanced Engineering Diploma in Diesel Mechanics. Kgosi lived and worked in democratic Botswana for 29 years before taking up leadership of the nation in 2001.
Council has a good working relationship with both the Local and Provincial governments. This is in line wiht its stated vision of championing community needs through socio-economic empowerment.
Several partnerships have been entered into with government and other stakeholders including:
– the upgrading and development of Lotlamoreng Dam in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Event.
– the Mafikeng Industrial Development Zone (MIDZ) project.
– a low cost housing initiative at Seoding village in partnership with the Molopo View Development company.
– and a 45% share ownership in the Bio-Diesel project.
Magosana(headman and ward leaders)
Tshidi-Barolong land is under the curatorship of several Magosana who are delegated by the King. They oversee the 60 Barolong villages and preside over disputes at ward level. Dissatisfied parties to a case can appeal to the Traditional Court which sits at the Main Kgotla.
The Magosana facilitate basic social services and allocate land to qualifying members of the community for residential, farming or business purposes. They report to the Main Kgotla
